'If these stones could talk...'

Last Church Standing (LCS) is primarily a personal interest blog about architecturally significant and interesting churches and places of worship in Melbourne, Victoria and Australia.

From the grand complex forms of city cathedrals to the odd kooky non descript church found on a quiet country road, the only rule that applies is that they must be functioning places of worship, still used by the gathering of the faithful.

LCS will travel our streets, explore our regions and visit our towns and cities to discover and share how the architecture of cathedrals, churches and other places of faith reflect the stories weaved into their stones.

Where possible LCS strives to be historically and factually accurate but is not designed to tell the complete story of each church, only to share historical context, interesting vignettes and showcase personal images.

Dramatic license for effect in storytelling may occasionally take place, but if you as a reader identify any yawning historical miscarriages please let me know in the comments section below a post or email me directly and I will acknowledge and update that particular post. If you detect that I have incorrectly misquoted a reference or text please let me know. I am not in the business of plagiarism.

Last Church Standing is agnostic about religion and religious organisations. My aim with this blog is not to judge the ideology, doctrines or teachings of any religion or spiritual practice. Rather in recognising that churches are often the most significant building in a place and that they stand out for their particular design. My objective is simply to share these fascinating places, and sometime architectural anomalies.

Churches and other places of worship stand as testaments to faith and worship of the divine and offer a fascinating entry point and rich historical observations into the social, political, cultural, and religious diversity of a region, a town, a city, of our communities.
